Hydrocortisone Base (Micronized USP) (also known as Cortisol or 17-Hydroxycorticosterone) is a naturally occurring endogenous glucocorticoid hormone produced by the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis. It binds to glucocorticoid receptors, regulating several key functions in the body. Hydrocortisone plays a critical role in metabolism by increasing blood sugar levels, regulating electrolyte and water balance, and helping the body respond to stress. It also possesses anti-inflammatory properties by binding to glucocorticoid receptors, which activates pathways that enhance the production of anti-inflammatory molecules while suppressing pro-inflammatory molecules. Additionally, hydrocortisone has been shown to inhibit histamine production, which is important in managing allergic reactions.
